How to get your business recommended by ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, Perplexity and Grok
By Demetri Panagiotou, founder of PremierConnect AI · November 3, 2026
The short answer: AI assistants search the web, then name the businesses they can read, match to the question, and see mentioned on other sites they trust. So make your site readable, answer each customer question in plain words, keep your name and details the same everywhere, and get mentioned where the assistants already look. Then test the same questions again in two to four weeks.
You can do most of this yourself. Here is how.
Where each assistant gets its answers
| Assistant | Where it looks | What to do first |
|---|---|---|
| ChatGPT | OpenAI's own search crawler, plus Bing's index | Submit your site to Bing Webmaster Tools. Allow OAI-SearchBot in robots.txt. |
| Claude | Its own web search, which has been reported to use Brave Search | Allow Claude-SearchBot. Get linked from sites that are already well known. |
| Gemini | Google Search and Google's business listings | Set up Google Search Console and a Google Business Profile if you serve an area. |
| Perplexity | Its own crawler, and it often quotes forums, reviews and lists | Allow PerplexityBot. Be named in the lists and threads it quotes. |
| Grok | Live web search plus posts on X | Post on X under your business name, about the work you do. |
| Microsoft Copilot | Bing | Same as ChatGPT: Bing Webmaster Tools. |
These change often, so check each one yourself. The pattern holds: if a search engine cannot find you, the assistant built on it cannot name you.
Eight steps, in order
- Ask first. Type the five to ten questions your customers ask into each assistant, like "Who is the best roofer in Round Rock?" Write down who gets named and which sites get quoted. This is your baseline.
- Let AI read your site. Check that robots.txt does not block AI crawlers, and that your main text is in the page itself, not loaded later by a script.
- One page per question. Answer each question in its own words, in the first two sentences, with your service and city named.
- Put your price on the page. A range is fine. "Call for a quote" gives the assistant nothing to repeat.
- Same identity everywhere. Your business name, address, phone and owner name should match on your site, Google, Bing, Yelp, LinkedIn and every directory.
- Get on the sites AI quoted. Your baseline shows them. Usually directories, review sites, industry lists and local news. Start with those.
- Earn real reviews. Ask happy customers to review you where your buyers look. Never buy or write them.
- Re-test the same questions. Two to four weeks later, ask the exact same questions again and count what moved.
What does not work
- Fake or paid reviews. They can get your listings pulled.
- FAQ markup for questions your page does not visibly answer. Google can treat it as spam.
- Stuffing a page with keywords. Assistants quote clear answers, not lists of phrases.
- An llms.txt file on its own. It is cheap to add, but no major assistant has said it ranks businesses by it.
- Anyone who guarantees a number one spot. Nobody controls what an AI assistant says.
How long it takes
Fixes on your own site can be checked the same day. New pages take two to four weeks to get crawled. Mentions on other sites take longer and matter more. Plan in months, and measure every few weeks.
When to get help
If you cannot find the time, or you made the fixes and the re-test did not move, an AI visibility firm can run it for you. Here is how to choose one. Our audit is free, and monthly plans run from $1,000 to $4,000. We publish our own numbers too, which started at zero.
Questions
How do I get my business to show up in ChatGPT?
Ask ChatGPT the questions your customers ask and note who it names. Then let AI crawlers read your site, answer each of those questions on its own page in plain words, list your prices, submit your site to Bing Webmaster Tools, and get listed on the sites ChatGPT quoted. Re-test the same questions two to four weeks later.
How do I get my business recommended by AI assistants like Claude, Gemini, Perplexity and Grok?
Each one searches the web before it answers, so the basics are the same: a site AI can read, a plain answer to each buyer question, the same name, address and phone everywhere, and mentions on the sites the assistant already trusts. Gemini leans on Google, ChatGPT and Copilot on Bing, and Grok also reads posts on X.
How long does it take for AI to recommend my business?
Fixes on your own site can be checked the same day. New pages usually take two to four weeks to get crawled. Mentions on other sites, like reviews and directory listings, take longer and matter more.
Can I pay to be recommended by ChatGPT?
Not in the normal answers. Nobody can guarantee where an AI assistant names you, so treat any guaranteed ranking as a sales line.
